I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart.” -Vincent van Gogh

I was looking through my gallery, doing a little re-organizing and editing, when I suddenly realized that my artwork has recently undergone a tremendous transformation.

As I had hoped, my Alliteration project- pinkbunnie.deviantart.com/jour… -helped to improve my overall drawing skill and develop a consistent style, as well as to give me the confidence to pursue subject matter outside of my comfort zone.

Though I only completed 5 alliterations- I had intended to do the whole alphabet- they mark the beginning of my transitional period and turned out to be a valuable exercise.

The same can be said of my Watercolor Flower studies, which helped to improve my ability to draw from observation in a more life-like fashion.

I plan to keep creating new illustrations in this style, as well as experiment with different media and subject matter, and see what changes take place in my work in the future.

In the meantime, the Alliterations are a great exercise for overcoming those "art-blocks" or just for plain old drawing practice, so I'm sure I'll come back to them at some point.

To any of the Artists out there who see this, feel free to use the idea! -though not any of my actual images, of course. :)

As always, good luck and happy drawing!

If you're reading this and you're anything like me (especially you fellow Deviants), you might have been told you have a great talent and not to squander it by wasting time on anything that didn't directly contribute to building your career.

I allowed this state of mind to haunt me for a good many years through high school and until now, stressing and worrying how I would graduate from a decent college and fulfill myself by turning my passion into profit.

But when it came down to deciding whether to go off to college or marry the man I fell in love with, I realized something-

Though it's true that if you have a great talent, you should nurture it- not neglect it, being truly fulfilled means a lot more than just making money doing what you're good at.

If you're lucky enough to have a roof over your head and food on your table, (and, let's face it- in this economy, a job of any kind) then believe it or not, you're doing pretty well for yourself.

If you're lucky enough to have all of that and wake up next to the love of your life each morning, you might as well have struck gold.

I remind myself of this every day, and every day I realize I have it all- and the best part is that NOTHING has stopped me from doing what I love.

Moreover, I have come to realize that I am passionate about my passion, rather than what I can gain from commercializing my passion.

In the end, I consider myself incredibly lucky- because I am still young, still talented, and still driven to do my best all while having the support of my wonderful husband.

And so, if you're reading this and you're anything like me, I urge you:

. Don't let anyone tell you you've made the wrong choices.
. Don't lose sight of what's important to YOU.
. Remember all that you have to be grateful for.

And, most importantly,
. Follow your passion the best way that YOU can.

"I am painting pictures which make me die for joy, I am creating with an absolute naturalness, without the slightest aesthetic concern, I am making things that inspire me with a profound emotion and I am trying to paint them honestly."
